Bible Study helps us to grow in our faith, learn God’s will, and be part of the mission of Christ’s church. Saint Raphael Parish offers several opportunities for group Bible Study and Fellowship. Please contact the Parish Office for information or consult this week's parish bulletin.
"A Family of Faith" (previously known as C.C.D.)
Starting Sunday, September 17, we invite Saint Raphael families with children in Grades 1 - 8 to join our new faith formation (previously known as C.C.D.) experience called “A Family of Faith.” The goals of this program are to encourage and equip parents to live and teach their children the Catholic faith at home. With meetings for both parents and children on first and third Sunday mornings of each month, our program will provide solid formation for children while giving parents all the knowledge and tools they need to bring their children up in the Faith. The cost of this program is $60 per family. For more information, click here for a flyer. To register, sign up online at straphaelpgh.org or email Nathan Wigfield.
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd will be offered for our youngest CCD members. Please contact the Parish Office or consult the weekly bulletin for further information or use the following links to register for 2017 - 2018:
Catholic Vision of Love (CVOL)
The Catholic Vision of Love program is a Diocesan required program for all students in every parish in Grades K - 8 (Faith Formation and Catholic School students). With a focus on Jesus, His beautiful love for each one of us and how we relate to each other, the program is designed to support parents in providing a foundation for each child to recognize the dignity of human life, how to respect each other, and the plan God has for each one of us. The program is developmentally appropriate as it builds on this foundation with each grade level. In Grades K - 4, the lessons focus on “stranger danger,” and Jesus’ love for us and how we treat others. The lessons in Grades 5 - 8 begin with pure love and friendship progressing by grade level exploring vocations, God’s plan for each person’s life, respect and dignity of human life and God’s plan for human sexuality. This program requires each teacher to be trained and certified in teaching CVOL, especially in Grades 5 - 8.
Saint Raphael Parish offers this program for Grades 5 - 8 in a retreat format. The schedule is posted in September for each grade level with retreats taking place on a Friday. Students attending schools other than Saint Raphael are provided with an excused religious exemption form. This form can be turned in to the Religious Education office two weeks prior to the retreat or the parents can take the form to their child’s school.
Parents may choose to teach this program to their child privately through the home study course by notifying the religious education office to receive the curriculum materials. There is a form that needs to be filled out and returned upon completion of the course.
Please contact Dolores Shipe, Director of Marriage and Family, via email or call 412.661.3100 x.27 with any questions or for further information.
During the summer, Saint Raphael Parish offers a Vacation Bible School to Pre-K - Grade 4 students. This week long Bible school is filled with learning, laughing, singing, making crafts, snacks and playing games. Adults and teens are welcome to volunteer to help out during this exciting week.
